Sleeping bags are great for babies at bedtime but it can be tricky to know how to dress your baby under one. Consistent use can help with the sleep routine, and create an association with sleep and calm. This is also useful for those occasions when your baby sleeps away from home, to help cocoon and retain familiarity.
So here are a few tips on what to do when using sleeping bags:
1. Make sure your baby cannot slip inside the sleeping bag or wriggle out. The head and armholes should be correctly sized to allow your little one to move around while keeping their head and arms outside the sleeping bag.

3. Check the room temperature is suitable for the tog rating, and make sure it is kept even throughout the night.
4. Check the sleeping bag neck and arm openings are securely fastened.
5. Do not use a sleeping bag if your baby can climb out of their cot.
6. Do not use a sleeping bag with other bedding.
What does tog mean in baby sleeping bags?
TOG means Thermal Overall Grade – this acts as a measure of how well your baby’s sleeping bag retains heat. The higher the tog rating the better the heat retention and warmer the sleeping bag.
The 1.5 tog sleeping bag, such as our Farm Garden Print baby sleep bag, or our Dinosaur print sleep bag, is usually used in the summer months as this allows an increased flow of air through the bag, compared to the 2.5 tog sleeping bag, like our Happy Hare sleep bag, which retains the heat more and is used more during the winter months.
